How to set up crash detection on your Android phone

Your phone comes with a number of useful features that we hope youâ€™ll never have to use â€” and crash detection falls into that category. Movement sensors detect when you’re driving â€” and when you come to a sudden and abrupt stop. Your phone or watch can then alert emergency services, along with family and friends, even if you’re incapacitated.

The feature is available on Pixel phones starting with the Google Pixel 4A, which launched in 2020. (It has been rumored that crash detection is built into the Galaxy S25 series phones as well, but if it is, Samsung hasn’t enabled the feature yet.)Â It is also an option on the Pixel Watch 2 and 3.

When a crash is detected, your phone and watch both sound an alarm and ask if something has happened. If you’re using a phone and a wearable together, you’ll see an alert on both screens, and you can reply on either device.

The slider options you get are I’m OK (to cancel the alarm) or Call 911 & notify contacts (to go ahead and notify emergency services and your contacts). If you haven’t responded after 60 seconds, the alerts get sent out automatically, with an audio message to explain that an accident has happened and where you are.

Pandora Stories lets artists add commentary to their own playlists

Pandora launched Stories today, a tool that lets artists and creators add voice commentary to their own playlists. The Stories feature merges podcasts with music playlists, and is meant for artists to add context to an album, or for podcasters to experiment with new storytelling formats. The feature is part of Pandora AMP, the streaming service’s free Artist Marketing Platform that helps creators promote their work. Experts are furious over the FCC’s rosy picture of broadband access

To hear the Federal Communications Commission tell it, this is a golden age for broadband access in the United States. According to a newly released report from the agency on the digital divide, the gap between rural and urban internet access has “narrowed substantially, and more Americans than ever before have access to high-speed broadband.” Between the end of 2016 and the end of 2017, the number of Americans without broadband access fell from about 26 million to about 21 million, the report found. London health workers to receive free e-bike loaners to avoid public transport

There are currently 20 Gocycle GS loaner e-bikes available, with more brands like Raleigh soon to join. The e-bikes and Abus locks and helmets are being distributed as part of a plan being organized by London-based e-bike retailer Fully Charged. Interested NHS workers can register their interest on this Fully Charged page , which also calls on other bike manufacturers and sponsors to pledge their support.
