Nintendo Switch update lets you share screenshots to your phone or PC

Photo by Amelia Holowaty Krales / The Verge Nintendo has released a new firmware update for the Switch, and for once it actually adds some features to the console’s barebones OS. The biggest one is a new way to share screenshots and videos directly to your smartphone by scanning a QR code. The process is a little awkward, but it definitely beats the previous method of uploading everything to Twitter or Facebook first. Here’s how it works: With the new system update on #NintendoSwitch , you are now able to wirelessly transfer photos and videos from your Nintendo Switch to a smartphone for easier sharing! https://t.co/FHsNV9djsE pic.twitter.com/unXPYkNej1 — Nintendo of America (@NintendoAmerica) December 1, 2020 You can also now copy screenshots and videos to your PC over USB. Raspberry Pi made a tiny $5 fan for cooling down your miniature computer

The Raspberry Pi Foundation has been on a roll this year with cool new hardware: there’s the upgraded Raspberry Pi 4 ; the new Raspberry Pi camera ; and my personal favorite: the Raspberry Pi 400 , a keyboard that’s actually a fully self-contained computer. Its latest product is a little more humble: a $5 fan and heatsink set that’s designed to keep your Raspberry Pi 4 cool, even for the most demanding overclockers. Fan cases for a Raspberry Pi aren’t exactly new, but there’s something particularly charming to me about the official model, like the satisfying way it clips onto the existing “official” Raspberry Pi 4 case or the bespoke heatsink that’s perfectly sized for the mini-computer’s processor. While the idea of adding a fan to a... Continue reading… from The Verge - All Posts https://ift.tt/3low4vc

December’s Cardinals vs. 49ers game will skip national TV for Prime Video and Twitch

Photo by Katelyn Mulcahy / Getty Images On December 26th, the Arizona Cardinals / San Francisco 49ers game will skip national television networks entirely and head to Prime Video, Twitch, and two local affiliates as part of Amazon’s recently expanded deal with the NFL . With the deal, Amazon locked in streaming rights for Thursday Night Football through 2022, but this Saturday game is a weekend “exclusive,” one of which the company is guaranteed to host each season. While calling the game an “exclusive” would suggest that Amazon’s platforms are the only way to watch, the game will also be available to stream on mobile through the NFL, 49ers, Cardinals, and Yahoo Sports mobile properties, according to Amazon’s press release announcing the game. Amazon says viewers using its... Continue reading… from The Verge - All Posts https://ift.tt/3lsjE5s

Disney digitally removes The Mandalorian’s accidental crew member cameo

Image: Disney In line with bad things happening in 2020, Disney has digitally removed a lone crew member who accidentally appeared in the background of a recent Mandalorian episode. The crew member, who the internet lovingly dubbed “Jeans Guy,” appeared at the 18:54 mark in season 2, episode 4 . Back flat against the wall, the crew member was not in the shot for very long, but they made an impact on Star Wars fans everywhere. People even made mock designs for action figures based on the crew member! You can’t buy that kind of love. The Verge has reached out to Disney about the digital erasure. Upon revisiting the scene, however, the crew member is nowhere to be found, something I was worried would happen. The beauty of digital editing technology is... Elon Musk wanted to call his new tequila ‘Teslaquila’ but Mexico said no

Image: Tesla When it first appeared, Tesla’s tequila was an April Fools’ joke on Elon Musk’s Twitter account. It was also called “Teslaquila.” But that name, ultimately, wouldn’t make it to the final product — which was very, very real. See, “Teslaquila” isn’t possible due to tequila industry regulations. The word “tequila” is a designation of origin; it means the rights of using this word belong only to the tequila agribusiness. That also means no one can register the word as their property. Because “Teslaquila” evokes the word tequila, it cannot be registered as a brand The problem with the branding is “Teslaquila’’ is too similar to the word tequila, according to the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT), the entity responsible for regulating and... Samsung’s next wireless earbuds are the ‘Galaxy Buds Pro,’ according to FCC filing

The Galaxy Buds Pro are rumored to look similar to the Galaxy Buds Plus (above), but the charging case will be different. | Photo by Chris Welch / The Verge It was inevitable that Samsung was going to make the switch from “Plus” to “Pro.” Even if there was a “Live” in between. The company has filed the necessary regulatory paperwork with the FCC for its next set of true wireless earbuds. It was already rumored that these would be called the Galaxy Buds Pro, and now it’s right there in documentation directly from Samsung itself. The FCC filing comes with the usual confidentiality protocols in place, so it doesn’t reveal too much more about the Buds Pro. But an image of the regulatory label offers a preview of the charging case’s shape. It seems the Buds Pro will be housed in a case that more closely resembles the case from the Galaxy Buds Live than the Galaxy Buds Plus. I... This motion-activated poké ball ‘must never be thrown’

The Pokémon Company International and The Wand Company are teaming up to release premium replicas of the classic Poké Ball, Great Ball, Ultra Ball, and Premier Ball. These $99.99 die-cast metal balls come with proximity-sensing tech that causes its button to light up and change color when pressed. You might be thinking that the point of a poké ball, any poké ball, would be to be thrown, as decades of games and cartoons have taught — especially for one that’s motion activated — but not this ball, buddy! This is not a toy. A replica weights in at 10.5oz, which, according to the very first result on Google, is twice the weight of a baseball and 4.5oz heavier than a cue ball. In a press release , Moderna said that there were 196 cases of symptomatic COVID-19 reported in the 30,000-person trial. Of those cases, 185 developed in people who received a placebo, and 11 cases developed in people who took the vaccine. Affected iPhone models go back to 2017’s iPhone 8 and 8 Plus. In a press release , the AGCM criticized Apple for not being clear enough about its water resistance claims. It said that claims about iPhones being water resistant for up to 30 minutes at depths of up to four meters only apply in certain circumstances like controlled lab tests with pure water. With that, a few deals might look a little familiar, but we’ve aimed to put in just as many brand-new deals that are hitting for the first time. We’ll be doing our best to keep this post updated during Black Friday, and through the weekend so that you can be certain that... Continue reading… from The Verge - All Posts https://ift.tt/3fMNnVx

Apple’s new MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and Mac mini with M1 are at their lowest prices yet for Black Friday

Photo by Alexander Kramer for The Verge Apple’s brand-new computers based on its own custom M1 chip have both been getting sterling reviews due to their great performance and better life. (Well, almost sterling reviews; The Verge ’s Nilay Patel is not a fan of the Touch Bar that still adorns the MacBook Pro, and according to reviewer Chris Welch, the Mac mini has a truly awful speaker . But aside from that...) Normally, brand-new Apple computers would not be on sale, even during Black Friday. But the M1-powered MacBook Pro 13 has already had a $50-off sale at Amazon, and today Adorama and B&H are discounting the Mac mini, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro with M1 chips. For the MacBook Air, both B&H and Adorama are taking $100 off of both the base configuration and the upgraded model... Continue reading… from The Verge - All Posts https://ift.tt/3lh61G1

Spotify was down for nearly an hour today

Illustration by Alex Castro / The Verge Spotify was down for nearly an hour today, after a widespread outage affected users in countries across Europe and beyond. The music streaming service stopped working for many at around 4:15AM ET, and Spotify rectified the issues after nearly an hour. Spotify outages are rare, and the last major one happened back in August after the company forgot to renew its TLS certificate. The service was down for an hour back then, but we’ve checked and the TLS certificate doesn’t appear to be the source of the issues this time around. We’ve made a few tweaks backstage, so everything should be back to normal. Need more help? Let @SpotifyCares know! — Spotify Status (@SpotifyStatus) November 27, 2020 Spotify also experienced problems earlier this... Continue reading… from The Verge - All Posts https://ift.tt/33D5Zmf

Oculus has discounted VR games and experiences for Black Friday

Photo by Amelia Holowaty Krales / The Verge Oculus is hosting a big sale on games and experiences for Black Friday, with more discounts coming on Cyber Monday. There are plenty of standalone deals, but Oculus has also curated several bundles, each one on a different theme. And you can gift titles to other people from the Oculus store, too. You’ll just need their e-mail address when checking out. According to Oculus, all of the games in the bundles below will work with Quest standalone headsets. Be aware, though, that only some of them support cross-buy, meaning one purchase will work both as a standalone app on Quest and when wired to your PC via Oculus Link. All others are exclusive to either Rift or Quest. To avoid confusion, I’ve labeled which support cross-buy. Make sure you... Continue reading… from The Verge - All Posts https://ift.tt/3lfDCjD

Apple’s 10.2-inch iPad is up to $70 off in Best Buy’s Black Friday sale

Photo by Dieter Bohn / The Verge Best Buy is offering a pair of great deals on Apple’s recently-released 10.2-inch iPad, with offers of up to $70 off. The retailer has knocked $50 off the price of the base 32GB model , which is now $280 compared to its usual asking price of $330. Meanwhile the 128GB model , which is the model we recommended most people should buy , is $70 less than its usual price of $430 at $360 . It’s the lowest price we’ve seen the 128GB model sell for since its launch. Apple’s 10.2-inch iPad sits at the bottom of its tablet lineup, but it’s still very good at doing the kinds of things iPads have always done well. This year’s model comes with a faster A12 Bionic processor that means the tablet still feels fast and sprightly to use, even if its outward... ROME, ITALY - AUGUST 25: Health workers wait for passengers arriving from high-risk countries to carry out rapid antigenic tests for Covid-19 at a testing station set up inside Leonardo Da Vinci airport, on August 25, 2020 in Fiumicino, Rome, Italy. The region has introduced mandatory COVID-19 tests for anyone arriving from Croatia, Greece, Spain and Malta to avoid a spike of new cases. | Photo by Antonio Masiello/Getty Images Rome’s Fiumicino airport plans to welcome passengers from the US without requiring them to quarantine, as long as they test negative for the novel coronavirus multiple times. Fiumicino says it will be the first airport in Europe to offer the “COVID-tested flights,” creating what it calls “safe air corridors” between Italy and the US. It will test the idea out in December starting with flights from New York’s JFK airport, New Jersey’s Newark Airport, and Georgia’s Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta airport. If those flights are successful, similar flights could be mad
